Double entry door installation in Delta, CO
A grand entrance built for wide openings, big glass, and lasting Western Colorado performance.
A double entry door turns an ordinary front opening into a true architectural statement. Two full slabs swinging from the jambs, often paired with sidelites and a transom above, create a sense of arrival that a single door cannot match. Innovate Window and Door configures double entry doors from ProVia, Andersen, and Pella in fiberglass, steel, and wood, sized and sealed for the wide openings and demanding climate of Montrose and the surrounding region. Jeremy Holzmeister brings 15 years of door industry experience to every double-door project. Proper alignment of the active and inactive panels is what separates a door that closes cleanly for decades from one that binds and leaks.
True double-slab configuration
A matched pair of doors, an active and an inactive panel meeting at a center astragal, gives you a wide clear opening for moving furniture, hosting, and everyday curb appeal. We set both panels to swing and seal as one unit.
Sidelite and transom glass options
ProVia, Andersen, and Pella all offer sidelites flanking the doors and transoms above to widen the opening visually and flood the entry with light. Decorative, privacy, and Low-E glass packages are all available.
Fiberglass, steel, or wood
Choose fiberglass from ProVia Signet or Pella for low-maintenance durability, steel from ProVia Legacy for security and value, or wood from Andersen A-Series and E-Series or Pella Reserve for natural character.
Energy and security of a sealed pair
A double door has more perimeter and a center meeting point to seal, so installation quality matters. We weatherstrip the astragal, set multi-point or flush-bolt hardware, and tune both panels for a tight, secure closure.
Why a double entry door makes sense for wide openings
Double entry doors, sometimes called double front doors or a French-style swing pair, are the right answer when your opening is wider than a standard single door and you want to use that width. Many Western Colorado homes, particularly newer construction and larger remodels around Delta and Montrose, were framed for a generous entry. A single 36-inch door in a wide opening leaves the rest of the space to fixed panels. A true double door uses the full width with two operable slabs.
The practical payoff is a wide clear opening when both panels are open, which makes moving furniture, appliances, and large items far easier than a single door allows. The everyday payoff is presence. A pair of doors reads as deliberate and substantial, the kind of entrance that defines the front of a home. Add sidelites on either side and a transom above and the entry becomes the focal point of the facade.
We configure double doors from ProVia, Andersen, and Pella across all three materials. For the look of wood without the upkeep, ProVia Signet fiberglass and Pella fiberglass are excellent. For genuine wood warmth on a higher-end home, Andersen A-Series and E-Series or Pella Reserve deliver it. Getting a double door to seal and swing right in our climate
A double door asks more of the installation than a single door does. There are two slabs to hang, a center meeting point to seal with an astragal, and twice the perimeter to weatherstrip. The inactive panel is held closed by flush bolts top and bottom while the active panel carries the lockset, and both have to be set so the doors close flush against each other and the weatherseal compresses evenly. Get the alignment wrong and you end up with a drafty center seam, a door that drags, or a pair that never quite latches cleanly.
Our crew sets double doors with the same protocol we use on every opening: confirm the rough opening is plumb and square, shim and fasten the unit true, then adjust both panels and the astragal until the closure is tight across the full height. In Montrose and across Western Colorado, where wind-driven snow and big temperature swings test every seal, that center meeting point is exactly where a poorly installed double door fails first. We treat it as the critical detail it is.
If a swing pair is not the right fit for your opening, our French doors page covers the hinged-glass alternative for interior and patio openings, and the residential doors hub lays out every format we install. Frequently asked questions
They share the same swing-pair concept, but the terms are used differently. A double entry door usually refers to a pair of substantial exterior front doors, often with solid or partial-glass slabs, used as a home's main entrance. French doors typically refers to full-light glass pairs used at patios or between interior rooms. Both can be configured with an active and inactive panel and a center astragal. We help you choose the right slab style and glass level for an entrance versus a patio opening.
Yes. ProVia, Andersen, and Pella all offer sidelites that flank the doors and transoms that sit above them. These widen the opening visually and bring in significant natural light. They do require a larger rough opening, so they are easiest to plan for in new construction or a remodel, but they can also be added when an existing opening is enlarged. We assess your opening and advise on what is feasible during the consultation.
Not when they are properly specified and installed. The inactive panel is secured with heavy-duty flush bolts at the top and bottom, and the active panel carries the deadbolt and lockset, which can include multi-point locking. The security of the system depends on the hardware, the frame reinforcement, and the installation, the same factors that govern any entry door. We set the bolts and hardware so the pair locks up as solidly as a single slab.
Common double doors use two 36-inch slabs for a 6-foot opening, but ProVia, Andersen, and Pella offer a range of panel widths, and adding sidelites extends the overall span considerably. The practical limit depends on your wall structure and the header above the opening. For openings beyond a standard double door, we assess whether structural work is needed. We confirm the achievable size for your specific opening during the in-home visit.
